Mental Health Awareness
In light of the many tragedies surrounding teen and young adults, shootings, suicide etc., NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) made thefollowing statement: “When tragedies involving mental illness occur, it isessential to understand the nature of mental illness—and to find out what went wrong.” Some of NAMI’s suggested questions were
- Did family members(peers) receive education and support? and
- When were the first symptoms observed?
Often the first ones to notice symptoms of mental illness are peers, therefore if they are educated about symptoms and triggers as well as how to seek help for others or themselves, they will be better able to facilitate a positive outcome. Our group, SPEAK 2 MY HEART, offers caring, experienced speakers who will come to your school and work with your counselors to raise awareness among
staff and students about this critical issue. We will bring hope and understanding to your school, helping to thwart future tragedies in your community.
